April 14, 2024 | Marriage Keys: Discovering God’s Design | Understanding Marriage Well

Series Overview:

This three-week series is designed to give some keys and thoughts that are foundational to a thriving marriage. The tips begin with Understanding Marriage Well. That is, God designed a beautiful gift called marriage for purposes that often get forgotten and then distorted by our culture. More specifically, when God is removed from the center and the relationship becomes all about sex, fulfillment, getting needs met and the like, it is a sure recipe for disappointment and disaster. A one-flesh relationship is profound. The second tip is Loving Well. Love in our culture has been sentimentalized and then twisted into something that can hardly be recognized as love, surely not biblical love. This tip explores loving well that is rooted in God and lived out in faith. The third tip is Finishing Well. Many people begin well but quickly fade. Staying power takes intentionality and focus. Finishing well means guarding what God has entrusted to you.

Weekly Overview:

Sure, the divorce question launched the conversation. Yet, Jesus has His agenda and lays a foundation (our first key) for marriage—Understanding Marriage Well. He clearly and decisively gives His Father’s plan for marriage. We don’t get to redefine or pivot as we please. In a world confused about so many things about love, sex, and marriage, Jesus said that God made us male and female so that we could become one flesh. This excludes all other ideas about marriage and sends us on a path toward something beautiful as it is centered on God. [Note: this message focuses on the one-flesh relationship and the exclusiveness of the relationship (excluding all others including porn, etc.)]
