Cindy

Cindy joined our staff during the summer of 2021. She serves as the Director for Journey Land and loves teaching children about who God is and how much He loves them. Cindy focuses on elementary-aged children and works closely with Mary Gibson, who cares for the youngest in our church family.
Cindy is a life-long Elginite. She was born, raised, and continues to live in Elgin with her husband Weert and their three boys, Caleb (15), Jonah (12), and Seth (10).
A Spanish and Elementary Education major at Wheaton College, Cindy earned her master’s degree in curriculum and instruction and is certified to teach English Language Learners.
Cindy has served in children’s ministry for twenty-five years. During this time, she volunteered in multiple roles, including as the volunteer children’s director at a previous church for over seven years. She also taught in public schools for nine years.
Perfectly fitting, as a director of children’s ministry, Cindy is most passionate about helping children grow in their faith and teaching them to stand up for the truth of God’s word. As for her personal passions, Cindy confided, “I’m passionate about my husband and finding a bargain!” She also loves being a mom!
If you know Cindy, you won’t be surprised to learn this high-energy, production-orientated, fun-loving woman was voted by her high school peers as “Most Likely to Become President of the United States.” But the White House can rest easy tonight; Cindy’s schedule is full with the VIPs of Journey Land!

As a busy mom of three, there’s not much time left for much else. On the rare occasion when she’s not driving someone to soccer, youth group, Cindy enjoys playing board games with her family. “King of Tokyo is a favorite, but I refuse to play Risk.”
