July 7, 2024 | Ecclesiastes: God’s Plan Brings Purpose & Hope

Series Overview:

The narrator appears back in our text giving advice to his son. He has used the Teacher’s words to give us a case study of our life experience on the earth. The Teacher isn’t a
nobody, as the narrator says, “uprightly he wrote words of truth.” (Ecc. 12:10). These words are
just painful to receive and relate to (Ecc. 12:11). Now the narrator shares the last word. We can
go on looking for wisdom (Ecc. 12:12), but we will never fully understand how and why things
happen in this world. It is better to fear God and obey His commands. Why? Because God will
bring every deed into judgment (Ecc. 12:14). What seemed meaningless had purpose and we
will stand before God to answer for it (2 Cor. 5:10). Who can stand righteous before God? (Rev.
5:5) Jesus Christ is the one who redeems us from the meaningless life under the sun. Jesus
redeemed us by subjecting Himself to it, experiencing the hebel of the world so we could have
hope and a future. He faced and conquered death, addressing the biggest fear the Teacher
spoke of, showing that for Christians, death is not the end but the entrance into the presence of
God. So, we have meaning in this life and hope for the future (1 Pet. 1:13, Rom. 8:22-25).
